Maison Gigi

GIGI – A former Pret A Manger store, totally transformed to provide a unique bakery hub for making fresh French Patisseries for both its own chain of restaurants and the general hospitality sector.

The small and unusual footprint of the space for both the Ground Floor & Basement areas had to be carefully thought out and future proofed. This was achieved by working closely with the client’s designer and along with Landsec.

A full strip out was undertaken including the existing feature bulkhead ceiling to allow new air conditioning units, ventilation, sprinklers and lighting to be installed to meet all current regulations and requirements.

All bespoke joinery items were made by BCJ, especially the impressive Pastry preparation area with its expansive piece of chosen White Carrera marble, which allows the art of pastry making to be undertaken in its traditional way.

A Coffee counter, Stop and Go unit, plus a quirky Shelving unit to the staircase, were amongst other bespoke joinery items that were made by BCJ to try and maximise the requirements yet still leaving the area feeling spacious.

A new traditional patterned ceramic floor was also laid with a border detail, fitted on this was the bespoke banquette seating made by BCJ manufactured in a style that fitted in within the French café scene, all carefully planned out to give a sense of space in the customer area.

The main highlight is the impressive feature mirrors above the banquette seating and sited on the column to the side of the display counter, the mirrors were all hand made with a distressed/old finish where no two pieces are the same which in turn gave the space more depth and light.
